Tips for Choosing Your Location – Carlsbad, CA Couples Photographer
Do you have a backdrop preference?
About 50-60% of the time when someone contacts me inquiring about a session they already have a backdrop type in mind. Whether it’s beach, foothills, woodsy, urban or indoor; there is often a preference or at least a list of what they don’t want. It’s definitely not a requirement to have a preference as there are literally hundreds of spaces in the Carlsbad, CA and greater San Diego County area to choose from for photos! I can give recommendations based on preferences or give them in general for someone looking to narrow down their choices.
When Alyssa contacted me we had a phone call to go over all the different possibilities for her couples/engagement session this fall. She and Steve had definite ideas of what they wanted and I loved going over all the possibilities for them!
Narrowing down the choices
It’s HARD to pick from the multitude of beautiful spots in Carlsbad and San Diego. There are many, many gorgeous beaches, but moving East there are so many parks, lakes, mountains and historical sites.
I’m always willing to check out new spots too. I’m only 18 months into our time here so there are tons of places I have yet to shoot at and explore. This is what I did for Alyssa and Steve so they could have a good idea of what various spots looked like and if it’s what they wanted in their engagement shoot.
Why pick 1 when you can pick 2 locations?!
I absolutely love my little city for photo spots and some of my favorites are right here in Carlsbad! One of the other awesome things about this area is that you can get to multiple spots in a short amount of time.
While this is not an option I would fully recommend for families, especially those with small children, it is very, very doable for those with older kids. Or one of my favorites; an engagement and/or couples session.
After visiting and going over all the various options available in SoCal and Carlsbad specifically, Alyssa and Steve went with a first location of Leo Carrillo Ranch. After we spent some time at all the great spots here we headed off to my favorite beach in Carlsbad for a beautiful sunset.
These were both super easy to get to in the time we allotted for the shoot. Leo Carrillo is only 8-10 minutes from this beach spot and even with a wardrobe change it leaves plenty of time for gorgeous beach photos! Don’t dismiss getting two completely different backdrops within 1 shoot for your couples and engagement session.
