Overcast and Awesome – Newport, Rhode Island Senior Photographer
I’m very excited to share my first official senior since moving to the Newport, Rhode Island area. I met Vikki at the Welcome event for our base way back in August and was so glad when she contacted me about possibly doing photos. She described what Brandon was looking for in his photos and I knew we could make it work very well at Fort Adams.
Brandon’s only request, aside from non cheesy photos, was for a dreary-ish day. He prefers overcast and rainy days to bright, blue sky days and as luck would have it, Mother Nature provided this just a few days after we met and discussed the photo shoot. I like a good overcast day myself and love the rich tones that those diffused skies provide.
This is Brandon’s 4th and final high school and although I don’t know he and his family very well at all, he certainly rolls with it and doesn’t seem to let that define him. I’ve come to learn that big or small, military kids are definitely a resilient bunch and it takes quite a lot to get them too out of sorts. It gives me hope as my own kids get older and continue changing schools that they will grow to be strong adults.
Brandon’s parents and I may or may not have embarrassed him and scarred him for life during his photo session. He and I both agreed that the first photos we captured were a bit stiff and he had his fake smile on. Well, cue some 80’s dance moves and I was moon walking in no time. I’m not sure what his parents were doing behind me, but it allowed me to capture not only some genuine smiles and laughs, but also looks of great embarrassment! I’ll take it!
I have to add that I love the evolution of a photo session. I start off working with strangers and nearly every time I feel like we’ve become friends by the end and I get a little sad when our whole process is over. I’ve loved getting to know Vikki, Gary and Brandon over the last month and I’m just happy we live in the same neighborhood so I still get to see them on a semi regular basis!
Thank you again!
