Monster Mosquitos and Elderly Photobombers – Okinawa Photographer
I have been a busy, busy little bee with photo shoots and I couldn’t be happier. Luckily, so far they have all been friends who are willing to be my guinea pigs for the sake of a holiday photo and some photos to print! I recently had a photo session with my good friend Kassie and her family at one of my favorite spots – Hamahiga Island. I was very much looking forward to this shoot because Kassie found a great new place on Hamahiga and because I know that she’ll be upfront with me on how things went however nervous that might make me!
We started out at a beautiful banyan tree hideaway that she and Mark found researching places to go. I love Okinawa for that very reason – fun little hideaways just a stone’s throw away that unless explored you would never know they were there!
The downfall of this amazing hideaway?! The massive amounts of mosquitos back there were like no other we have ever experienced before in our lives. After exploring this area and becoming lunch for them, we were equipped with 2 cans of bug spray for the photo shoot. Um, these were Super Man mosquitos. They did not care one iota about bug spray! I’m pretty sure we were scratching for days!
We hurried on to another spot to escape the evil bugs and had another encounter. Hamahiga is a very small island, but has a great little village on the way to a hidden beach that I love. Small roads, traditional homes, etc. Perfect!
However, at this location we had a little elderly helper who may or may not have wanted to take Kassie home with him to maybe or maybe not have his babies! So I did as any photographer would do – I panned out so I include him in the photo to photo bomb!
And I got up the courage to ask him for his own photo before we left and went on to a new island location. He didn’t want one at first, but enough eyelash batting and begging got me a photo that I absolutely love!
I’m so happy these great friends were willing to play around and let me just sit back and shoot! I love them for that and happy to have some great images for them!
