I'm going to switch gears today and go from sappy to sassy! 2 weeks after we get to Japan we will be attending my husband's change of command ceremony. I'm determined to find a dress here because I will be sleep deprived and have no idea where to shop once we get there. I'm just hoping to make it through the ceremony without getting drowsy!
So I'm turning to you and my friends here to help me choose one (yay you!).
Some things to consider when looking at these:
**I'm a sweaty, sweaty gal. Seriously, I have no idea why. When I think about trying not to sweat, I sweat even more. I'm sweating right now just writing about it!
**It will be about 80-90 degrees with 1000% humidity. Ok, maybe not 1000%, but it's horribly, horribly humid there. (This obviously links to the Sweaty McSweaterson factor).
**Terry is taking command of a Battalion, meaning he is "the boss", meaning all eyes are on us that day, meaning I'm just sweating thinking about all those eyes on me.
Ok, on with the fashion show! The ridiculous poses are on purpose to get through this – I would make a horrible model.. Oh, and I have absolutely no idea what is up with those awesomely large calves-weird.
1. This one is from Ann Taylor Factory Store:
2. From White House Black Market
3. J. Crew Factory Store (not sure how I would feel about the shoes with this)
4. J. Crew (from a dear friend willing to give me this great dress):
Ok, time to vote!! I can't decide and no way I can keep them all-mama spent a little too much on a shopping spree on Saturday!
Thanks everyone!

I really like the first one and the last one. If it were me, I would probably go with the last one. Have fun being the Boss’s wife š
I like #4!
they are all great, but I like the first one the best, but you are rockin’ the black and red one! Sorry, I’m not much help, I am hyperventilating right now as I realize I need a dress for my husband’s change of command in a month as well. Crud, I’m still hyperventilating over the spouses workshop course in 2 weeks!
I would go with Number 4 for the bosses wife. The third one for you personally and not to impress others is number 3 it fits you the best and it is lovely!
Christa, I love this post…totally made me smile today! You are just adorable. I love #4 the dress and shoes together looks wonderful on you.
Thanks Diane!!
Ā
Thank you!
I went to that in October, which ps, I was hyperventilating about that too.Ā It wasnt as bad as I thought it would be thankfully.
Oh, you better get on yours too-only a month away!!Ā Congrats by the way!!
Oh I am so NOT looking forward to being the boss wife.Ā I wish I could hire someone else to do the business part of it!
From a former Marine’s wife…I vote for #3 with red, green, or yellow flats or heels! Hope you have a safe trip to Japan!
Thank you!
I’d say one or two, though two is my first choice. It’s a power dress, IMO. But girl, you look awesome in every single one and I think the calves look amazing!
You look wonderful in all of the, Christa, but for this occasion I’d go with either #2 (I love that it has somewhat of an “Asian” look to it) and it really defines your waist or #4 because the color is so striking against the black and it really suits your hair and coloring. š Good luck!
I am going with option 4, mostly because you look happiest in it? And, you are a runner, no? Never complain about MUSCLE!!!! š
PLUS, if you are being given the dress, you can spend $$ on a cool necklace or earrings!
Oh, good point on the necklace/earrings!!
Ā
you are rockin’ the poses:)
i choose #4 for the ceremony. the color and heels=perfection. but i would definitely keep #3…it looks great on you (i’m partial to solid colors)!
I love the number 4. It looks a little more formal and the shoes with it are fantastic! I think overall the dress fits you a little better too!
Just happened upon your blog today and thought why not …so if you care to listen to a stranger …my two cents …I really like #1 because it looks so cool (but does it wrinkle easily?); however, #4 seems dressier.

I think #3 looks the best on you. I would go w/ Red heals/wedges for a patriotic look or nude shoes if you have them w/ maybe red necklace. #4 looks great too. A little dressier + free are great postives for it.
I know you don’t know me from Jack, but I follow your blog, so I’m giving you my opinion. I like #2! (#4 as a second choice). #3 is cute but doesn’t look dressy enough. #1 just doesn’t seem special enough. Good luck!
Thank you Kelly! I do appreciate your 2 cents!!

Sadly, I think #1 would wrinkle easily because its kind of a wrinkled mess just from being in the bag.Ā I would have to wait until the last possible minute to put it on!
Thanks for stopping by my blog and giving me your 2 cents-I appreciate it!
I think #4 looks beautiful on you!
I like #1 and #4 the best but you look great in all of them!
LOVE number 3 š
You look great in all of them, but I like #2 the best š
You look great in all of them but you look fantastic in #4!
okay, so my actual favorite dress is the j. crew factory one. but, yeah…it doesn’t quite go with the shoes and i think it’s too simple for the occasion.
i think the white house black market one is perfect. very striking…professional/fashionable/just cool.
and seriously…you look great. š
christa! you are smokin’ hot with killer legs! š Don’t apologize for that. š
Anyway, I actually really like them all. #3 is my favorite dress then #1. However, I would probably pick #2 — #3 is probably too casual, one too wrinkly. BUT, you can’t argue with free either…so, don’t listen to me.
GOOD LUCK GIRL. You’re gonna be GREAT! š
You are way too cute…you rock all of them!!! #4 really stands out…it looks amazing and is different, plus I would think the print on top would distract away from any sweatiness;)
i like #3 as well – and fro someone who sweats – I would fear the sweat showing on a solid color grey dress. My son is getting married in June and this too has been something I have been thinking. I love the first one and you could do a splash of red with jewelry and cute shoes – very sassy. i did read you thought it would be a wrinkle mess. Anyway not sure this is any help but for the occasion – #1 or #3
I love #4, #1 would be a close second, but you really look great in #4.
Defenitly # 4. You look very distinguished in it. For me it is more formal than the other ones. Perfect for the bosses wife š In Germany it would be called “das kleine Schwarze” referring to a formal black dress.
They’re all super cute, but I love #1 the best!
My favorite is #2. I LOVE WHBM and it looks awesome on you. Plus? Their fabric is wicking!
I haven’t been blog hopping lately and I’m just now catching this. So, I don’t know if you’ve decided yet… but NUMBER THREE. Run, don’t walk to throw away the receipt and not return this one… this is gorgeous… you can pop it with jewelry up or down, modern or vintage and it’s mod with a stunningly classic look – it’s amazing and amazing on you… keep it, wear it, enjoy.
Love them all, but #3 is my very favorite! I wonder if you could make it dressier with jewelry/shoes? #4 definitely does say “commander’s wife” to me, and it looks great on you. Heck, you could wear a paper sack and still look great. You are going to make such a great commander’s wife!
