Since we found out we were moving to Okinawa I have had lots of travel destinations on my 3 year bucket list and so far I am making some great progress. Over the long weekend some girlfriends and I took advantage of a quick getaway to mainland and headed up to Kyoto, which to us Americans is about the equivalent of Colonial Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown. We could not wait! A weekend of touring, eating and chatting sans families was what we were waiting for!
And tour we did. We did not waste any time and took full advantage of a grown up vacation. Our first day we stayed close to our house we rented, which so happened to be located about 3 blocks from Nijo Castle. It’s amazing to see this old structure settled in along a busy road.
It seems that many castles, shrines and temples in Kyoto also have gardens attached to them. Whether small or large there was some type of zen garden in most of the places we entered.
What I love about Kyoto is what a mobile, bike infused city it is. We had to watch out moreso for bikes coming at us on the sidewalks than cars or buses coming at us on the roads! It was awesome to see young and old out there biking everywhere getting to school, work or just out to get some dinner.
Eventually I’ll be back with some crafting again! Thanks for stopping by!
