Like many military families just moments from moving to the next adventure, we had exactly one afternoon/evening to get photos for this beautiful family done before dad set off for training and a new job across the pond. As is Germany, specifically Stuttgart, tradition; there was rain. Luckily for me, Jennifer and her family are adventurous spirits and we pushed forward hoping for the best!
We improvised at a spot that is a favorite for both of us and used a well sheltered overpass for some photos to start. Worked pretty well thankfully!
The rain broke long enough for the Winkels to just be Winkels – laughing and having fun. Maybe a couple of tears, but they powered through like champs. We ran, we laughed, we told jokes and got a bit silly.

I always take a time out for individual and mom/dad photos because let’s face it, school photos are still pretty generic and not exciting these days!
I have a lot of families request dirndl and lederhosen photos. I don’t mind doing those, but I always make families change over for the fun photos. Of course, Jennifer and her famiy made sure that even the trachten photos were fun!
This awesome family is already back and settled in the states now. I know they are missed here in the Stuttgart area and I sure hope our paths cross again some day!
Here’s hoping for clearer skies when we land in San Diego soon!
