Let’s Do This – 2015 Project 365
Way back in 2009 I got a hair brained idea that I would take part in the ever popular Project 365.
It’s a photography project that took off, especially with the increase in social media, where you take a photo every day to document your year. Many people take many different approaches to it (only using an SLR camera, only using phone photos, only shooting people, landscapes, etc.). It’s a great challenge and an awesome way to hone photography skills if that’s what you’re going for in the end. It’s also a great way to drive yourself bat shit crazy on those days when you just don’t feel like taking a photo, but not quite ready to throw in the towel!
In 2009 I last about 4-5 months. Not too shabby, but not even halfway either so I was definitely batting way less than 500. It was also before I had an iPhone and could take photos with that. At that time I put lots of rules on myself that set me up for failure (I had to use the big girl camera, I had to upload every day and had to share every day). No way Jose – taking a different route this time.
I would like to primarily use my DSLR, but let’s get real, that’s not going to happen every day. I really enjoy iPhone-ography and will be utilizing that as well. I also won’t be posting until Sunday evenings to have time to go through all my photos. And on those Sundays I feel particularly lazy? Well, then it’ll probably be Monday, or Tuesday or the next Sunday. Easy peasy. We’ll see how easy peasy this is come June/July when we’re knee deep in move #10!
January 1
Every year we see the news of people all over the world going into freezing cold water for the Polar Bear Plunge. While none of us has any desire to ever complete this challenge, we thought we would go watch all those crazy people since it was happening a couple of miles from our house. The water was 44 degrees and outside temp was about 31. No. Stinking. Way!
January 2
The girls were fairly disappointed that New York City was so incredibly crowded at all the ice skating rinks so we ventured up to Providence for an afternoon of skating. We had a great time and did not freeze our tushies off like we thought we might! Photo taken by Terry so that at least once in 2015 I can be in one of my photos.
January 3
For the first time in 3 years we not only saw snow, but played in it, even if briefly. Ella, hater of all things cold, declared that she loved snow and would never, ever get tired of it. Talk to me in late March kid – you’ll be way tired of it by then.
January 4
We went from cold and snowy to almost warm(ish) and very foggy. Some schizophrenic weather to say the least. I ventured down to the bay by downtown Newport because I loved the serene quiet of the fog and water at the pier.

These are beautiful and interesting photos. I really feel like I’m there…and it’s cold!! Good for you for attempting a 365 again and setting more flexible limits.
Love your story accompanied by great images!
Great start! I love your January 3 image!
Love this 365 project! What an amazing way to document your year and tell your story through your photos. This will be great to look back on after you’ve finished, however far you end up getting into the year! Best of luck on your project 🙂
Love your first four pics. I’m looking forward to following your 365 project.
