Our time of traveling here in Stuttgart is coming to an end very soon. We still have a couple of trips planned before wheels up, but I’ll so miss all these amazing opportunities!
This past fall we ventured to a little town that had never even made it’s way onto my radar. Terry had found it during some travel research. We flipped a coin between this lake/mountain village and somewhere in Lake Como and this one won. I’m so glad it did because now it’s that one hidden gem that I pass on to anyone looking for somewhere new to go.
Lake Annecy, France
It’s located in the French Alps not far from the famous Mont Blanc range. The lake is crystal clear and just amazing. Not many places get put back on the list that I MUST return to, but this one is. There’s more to explore.
Not only is the village so quaint and gorgeous, but in the eyes of 2 beer lovers, it is a beer paradise too. Most places we have been in France limit their selection to Heineken and 1664, which as a slight beer snob, gets a big “meh” from me when I see those on the menu. We found the coolest little hang out on the main drag of Annecy and I have to say we’re intrigued by a post retirement idea. Beer O’Clock – if you’re ever in Annecy check it out. You put money on a card (think credit card) and you can try as much or as little of each of the beers on tap until you run out of money. It’s genius I tell you and I wish I had gotten a photo of that cute little pub! Instead, I present a Nutella bun – amazing…
We took it upon ourselves to torture the girls with a bike ride around part of the lake too. Had there been less whining we may have made it a bit further, but… It was beautiful along the lake and just my type of biking: FLAT!
I highly recommend venturing out to the area mountain ranges too. We went on a wild goose chase to find a alpine coaster and it was very Chevy Chase in Vacation. “Sorry folks, coaster is closed”. Booo! Very disappointing, but we decided to terrorize the children even more and make them hike up to a sweet view.
Seriously, put this on your list of places to see. It’s so beautiful and incredibly quaint. One of those places you have no expectations and it ends up being one of your absolute favorites!
